Long established restaurant serving local specialty for lunch along the river- a “yoshoku bento” three-tiered boxed lunch

Established over a century ago in 1915, the long-established restaurant Kaiyōtei is located along the Kamo river with a front view of the Kabuki theater “Minami-za.”

The restaurant is faithful to continuing tradition and serving its original demi-glace sauce which takes 2 weeks to make. Riverside courses in the summer start at 6,048 yen. Start off with an hors d ‘oeuvres, soup and then for the main dish choose from steak, stew, prawns or fish. The restaurant’s specialty is beef stew which has remained unchanged since its founding, and regular customers continue to love. We also recommend trying some of the fish, which is delivered fresh directly from the fishing port or the three-tiered boxed lunch “yoshoku bento.” Reservations for riverside dining are available for lunch in May and September. At Kaiyōtei, guests can enjoy the at-home warm, friendly service.
